Volunteer Jobs at Christ Church URC

 Sound Desk & Computer Operators

Like technology? Looking to come back to church? Want to start coming? Prefer to be ‘doing’ something?

We need people to train to use the sound desk, set up microphones, wire up guitars etc., Training will be give & if you are interested send an enquiry form asking for the next Sound Desk training day, or come along on Sunday 9am (set up) 10-11am to see what happens during a service or 11.30am to chat to the current sound desk operators.

Prefer Computers? We need people to set up the song words, readings, choose suitable background pictures, run powerpoint displays etc.,  Also to make or update slides for the Foyer TV display.

This website needs constant updating and could be expanded to include more information on those community groups who hire the building. Interested? Come and see us on Sunday morning.

Like Music?  Here at Christ Church we are looking for Christians who’d love to be more involved in the worship groups.  We have a flexible group of singers, guitarists, pianists and the occasional violin. The level of musical ability is variable, but if you would like to come along and meet other Christian musicians then speak to a worship group member after the 10am service on Sundays.

CHRIST CHURCH CATERING – enjoy cooking or organising?

Join the Christ Church catering team.  Please talk to Jane Smith or Elder Sharon Tringham. Past catering events have included 130 for a buffet wedding reception.  Funerals can be held in the church or the local crematorium followed by a cold buffet. These have been held in the Foyer cafe area (up to 30), in room 1, which has outside access and can hold up to 50, or in the larger hall upstairs.  Smaller events include Minister or group lunches or Alpha courses etc.,  It is possible to have cold buffets or a fully cooked 3 course meal. The catering staff are also for hire for private functions – children’s parties, wakes and outside venues. The upstairs kitchen can be hired in conjunction with the hall for self-catering. Volunteers always wanted to help with any of the following: shopping, preparation, cooking, serving, clearing or washing up.

The more volunteers we have, the more events we can run.

LifeSprings Cafe Staff –

Staff are needed to run the cafe between 10-1 on on any day of the week or 10-12 /12-2pm on Saturday. There is a need for 3 staff on Saturday pm due to the serving of light lunches.

We would like to have 3 staff on most days as there are 3 types of roles we need to fill :

1) Someone to be in the cafe, chatting to people when necessary and praying  when asked – this is a gift and would be an ideal role for older church members who remember why the cafe was started and feel it is an important service.

2) Serving – taking orders, delivering orders with a smile, collecting money and using the till. A more active role for those who like to keep busy and have an outgoing personality.

3) Kitchen staff – washing up, making drinks, cutting cake/ preparing scones etc – This is a really important role, but one suitable for those who like to be busy, but prefers to stay out of the limelight!

Many people will find they enjoying doing a mixture of all 3 jobs, BUT, if you have a gift or a preference to help in only one area PLEASE let us know. We would love to have 3 staff members every session so everyone enjoys themselves and are not burdened.

The job involves following all current hygiene procedures, making instant drinks, operating the coffee machine (one button!) operating a till, selling cake and biscuits, keeping tables and surfaces clean, vacuuming at the end of the shift, and being ready to chat to everyone and anyone – whenever they want.

Training will be given in all areas.  Talk to Jayne Laird or Linda Robinson or to any of the current staff to see how much fun it can be.

LifeSprings Cafe is unlike any other cafe in Tonbridge. Where else can you find lots of friends gathering to chat? What other cafe has conversations which include people on different tables!

The brownie pack is up to full strength and would be interested to hear from past brownies or helpers to help out.  Weekly help or occasional helper for a particular badge would be great. Please note: This post requires a DBS check (used to be called CRB)- unless you are a parent or carer of one of the brownies – see the ‘Community Groups’ page for more details.

Parents Plus+

Trains volunteer parents to support others with a variety of parenting issues. It will also train helpers to support or run parenting training courses.   Please note: Some of these jobs require the DBS check. Take a look at the  Parent Plus+ details in the Community Groups section.
